Back in 1946, we started making tasty, wholesome products from Okanagan fruit. Today, we’re still committed to making great things out of fruit, veggies and other simple ingredients.
We’re a proudly Canadian brand, based in Kelowna, BC. We try to capture a little bit of the sunny Okanagan in everything we do, from the products we make, to the communities and initiatives we support.
75 years of history
We’re a proudly Canadian brand with over 75 years of history manufacturing and marketing a wide range of juice and snack products.
1946
In 1946, BC’s fruit growers created BC Fruit Processing Ltd. to utilize the BC Interior’s abundant apple crop, which led them to produce a delicious pure juice made with apples straight from the orchard. This new apple juice was named SunRype, also known as Blue Label for its iconic blue packaging.
1959
Since launching SunRype pure apple juice in the 1940s, the SunRype brand name became increasingly well-known in Western Canada. The reputation for consistent quality and innovative products led BC Fruit Processing Ltd. to officially change their company name to SunRype Products Ltd.
1963
For a period of time, SunRype pure apple juice was packaged in pure pack milk cartons, and distributed door-to-door by Dairyland milkmen on their regular delivery routes. Home deliveries of SunRype’s iconic Blue Label pure apple juice marks a memorable time in history for many Western Canadians.
1979
As the price of packaging increased, SunRype needed to find a less costly option. This marked the transition to Tetra Briks, a new Swedish-made product. While the Tetra Brick has evolved over the years, SunRype’s pure apple juice can still be found in this type of packaging today.
1980s
Fluctuations in apple harvests from year to year prompted SunRype to diversify product lines and expand beyond its Okanagan Valley roots. A new tagline, Taste the Sun, was introduced in 1985 to celebrate the move into new fruit flavours and categories.
1990s
Recognizing the opportunity to enter the healthy and convenient snack food market, SunRype purchased Okanagan Dried Fruits Ltd. in Okanagan Falls, BC. This led to the launch of our 100% fruit snack bar, Fruit to Go, that continues to be well loved by Canadian families today.
2000s
In the early 2000s, parents were struggling to get enough fruits and vegetables into their families’ daily diets. This inspired SunRype to produce the Fruit Plus lineup, offering a full serving of fruit and vegetables in every glass. With the addition of essential vitamins and minerals, it wasn’t long before this unique and great tasting product line won over consumers. In 2004, SunRype evolved this idea into the form of portable, nutritious fruit and veggie bars called FruitSource and FruitSource +Veggies.
2013
SunRype Slim was launched in 2013 as a response to consumers’ desire for more low sugar options. Slim is all about finding that balance between low calories, low sugar and great taste by delivering delicious fruit flavour from only natural flavours and colours, with no aspartame.
2018
As consumers continued to seek nutritious, convenient, and great-tasting snack options, SunRype responded with a brand new range of coconut and date-based products called Good Bites. This product line stays true to SunRype’s gluten free, nut free, and vegan promise, and has since expanded to include mini bites in single serve pouches for even greater portability and portion control.
2020s
To this day, SunRype is proud to offer a growing array of products made with simple, wholesome ingredients. We strive to be a company that families trust and enjoy, as so many have over the past 75+ years.
